Addressing Marblehead's Housing Needs

The redevelopment of the Broughton Road community presents an important opportunity to revitalize existing state public housing in Marblehead and create new affordable and mixed-income apartments for households struggling to make ends meet in a historically difficult market.

Featuring a combination of two and three-bedroom duplexes, the 62 apartments on Broughton Road are a key source of housing for the Town, but 54 of them are in structures built 75 years ago. They need to be renovated to meet modern standards for handicapped accessibility, energy efficiency, shared community space, etc.

The renovation project also gives the Marblehead Housing Authority a significant opportunity to use property it already owns to create additional housing for the Town by building new apartments that would be affordable to current citizens who want to remain in Marblehead and/or work in the local economy.

Marblehead Conceptual

This conceptual rendering is from WinnDevelopment's response to the Marblehead Housing Authority's Request for Proposals. It was created by ICON Architecture to portray what the redeveloped property could look like. A final design has not been proposed.

Through a combination of demolition, renovation and new construction, the redeveloped Broughton Road property would feature around 100 affordable apartment homes, delivering renovated units for current Broughton Road public housing residents while also increasing the Town’s affordable housing stock in a thoughtful way.

This web site is designed to keep the community informed as the project moves through the design and planning phases.
